On January 13, Heather Traister successfully competed in a District 10 Skills USA Competition for Criminal Justice through the Career Center.  She competed against five male Criminal Justice students from vocational-technical schools in District 10.

New Castle School of Trades hosted the skills competition for all vocational-technical shops.   Heather competed in three different events for her Criminal Justice shop. She took a juvenile delinquency exam using the Pennsylvania Crimes Code Book; reacted to 15 different scenarios and labeled what crime was committed; and handcuffed a man that committed a mock crime which included searching for weapons, sharp objects and contraband.

In the competition, Heather scored higher than all of the other competitors and took first place. She brought home the gold medal, which makes her eligible to compete in another competition this April. She will get to travel to Hershey Park and participate in another event for a state title. If she does well and takes either first or second place, she will then have the opportunity to go to Kentucky for the national title and a $5000 prize.  Good Luck to Heather!
