Kolby Barrett’s 2021 NFL Mock Draft

The following players are my selections for each teams pick for the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

1. Jacksonville Jaguars – Trevor Lawrence / Quarterback / Clemson

Trevor Lawrence is a once in a lifetime talent and with a young and fresh system, he would be perfect for Jacksonville. The Jaguars did however bring in Ohio State’s former head coach Urban Meyer which could play an impact in this pick. Some have speculated that they could take Ohio State’s QB Justin Fields as well. Overall I feel that they will be taking a QB with this pick unless the team comes together and has great faith with Gardner Minshew II.

2. New York Jets – Penei Sewell / Offensive Tackle / Oregon

This pick right here may raise some questions and for all the right reasons. All year long it has been projected that the Jets go quarterback with their first pick. But with new head coach Robert Saleh in there, I feel that he would want to give Sam Darnold another shot and to get him some help up front. This will lead them to have Mekhi Becton as well as Penei Sewell on different sides of the offensive line making it hard to get pressure on Darnold.

3. Miami Dolphins – Ja’Marr Chase / Wide Receiver / LSU

Once again another controversial pick is going to have to be taking Ja’Marr Chase over DeVonta Smith. Obviously this year Smith had an insane season by winning the Heisman and National Championship MVP, but I feel that we see Miami go with Chase on this pick. He is only 6’0 tall but he plays like he is a giant, the natural strength that he has makes him a great target for dolphins.

4. Atlanta Falcons – Zach Wilson / Quarterback / BYU

With this pick I feel as if the reign of Matt Ryan is finally coming to an end and that it is time to start looking young. The thing with this pick is that how could the Falcons pass up on Fields and take Wilson instead? Well I feel that Wilson would fit the scheme better in Atlanta better than that of Fields. With this pick we could see the end of Matt Ryan’s tenure with Atlanta.

5. Cincinnati Bengals – Kyle Pitts / Tight End / Florida

Most people have the Bengals taking a lineman with their first pick in the draft but I think they take the gamble and go with Kyle Pitts. He is definitely the most versatile tight end in this draft class and would be a smart move for them to make. If they take a tight end here, when the second round comes around I believe that there will still be some very good offensive lineman on the board.

6. Philadelphia Eagles – DeVonta Smith / Wide Receiver / Alabama

Not much to say here, Smith had an amazing season winning the Heisman as well National Championship MVP after having 200+ yards in just the first half. The Eagles desperately need a big wide out to help them and I see them taking Smith here or Ja’Marr Chase if Smith is gone. I doubt if they go with a quarterback as well, because I think that they have their faith in Jalen Hurts.

7. Detroit Lions – Micah Parsons / Linebacker / Penn State

I honestly believe that Micah Parsons is the best defensive player in this year’s draft and can be a big help and addition to this Lions D. Before the trade with Rams where they received Jarret Goff, two first rounders, and a third rounder, I would have said that they were going to take a QB to replace Matthew Stafford, but as of now I see them taking defense to help fill some needs there.

8. Carolina Panthers – Justin Fields / Quarterback / Ohio State

I think that the perfect fit for Justin Fields is in Carolina. He plays like their last two starting QB’s Teddy Bridgewater and Cam Newton. So if he manages to fall to pick eight I could easily see the Panthers taking him in and drafting Fields. I also could see Carolina going with some help on the O line if Penei Sewell somehow manages to fall to them.

9. Denver Broncos – Kwity Paye / Edge / Michigan

Broncos franchise edge rusher Von Miller is getting up there in age and it’s time to look for a replacement. Kwity Paye could easily fill that spot and could be a great asset alongside Bradley Chubb. I could as well see the Broncos taking quarterback Zach Wilson if he manages to fall down to the number nine spot. But with Paye he would be a great pickup for the team and fill a position of need.

10. Dallas Cowboys – Caleb Farley / Cornerback / Virginia Tech

For this pick I see the Cowboys going for some much needed help on defense. While they do need help in the trenches of their defense, I don’t see anybody there that stands out as a top ten pick. That’s why I would go with rather Caleb Farley or Patrick Surtain II, either or is a solid pickup. I as well see potential in them trading down to a team and taking defensive tackle Christian Baremore with a late first rounder or early second.

11. New York Giants – Patrick Surtain II / Cornerback / Alabama

With the Giants I could see them doing a lot of different things. First off I could see them going and getting another target for their franchise quarterback Daniel Jones. Or going with a lineman on the offensive side as well. They also need some help on defense and that is what I see them doing with their first pick in the draft and go with Patrick Surtain II, Surtain all in all may be the best cornerback and for a position that is lackluster for the Giants, why not take the best at it.

12. San Francisco 49ers – Trey Lance / Quarterback / NDSU

Trey Lance might be my favorite quarterback in this year’s draft class. Other than Trevor Lawrence, I think that Lance is the second best quarterback in the draft. The playstyle of Lance resembles that of Josh Allen and even Patrick Mahomes. He has already proven himself more than Mac Jones or Justin Fields, because he doesn’t have the talent that they do. The 49ers want rid of Jimmy Garappalo and I feel as if Trey Lance can be the perfect replacement for the team.

13. Los Angeles Chargers – Rashawn Slater / Offensive Tackle / Northwestern

After winning Offensive Rookie of the Year, Justin Herbert can officially declare himself as the Chargers franchise quarterback. So why not get some help in protecting your young star QB. Other than Penei Sewell, Rashawn Slater is a close second to best O lineman in this year’s draft. He is great at defending the pass and could be a big pickup for the Chargers.

14. Minnesota Vikings – Alijah Vera-Tucker / Offensive Tackle / USC

I can see the Vikings going after a couple different positions, but I feel that they will go and get some help on the offensive line. With a mid-first round pick, taking a great offensive lineman to help block for Dalvin Cook could be just what the team needs. They could however go with an edge rusher. Gregory Rousseau, Azeez Ojulari, or Jayson Oweh would all be on the table if they go this route.

15. New England Patriots – Mac Jones / Quarterback / Alabama

Tom Brady’s era has been over for a year now in New England and I think it is time to look for their next franchise QB. They already have a solid offensive line built and maybe get a 2nd or 3rd round wideout and their offense might be good for a while. Unless a big name quarterback falls to the Patriots at pick 15, Mac Jones would be who I would go with, to learn off of Bill Belichick.

16. Arizona Cardinals – Christian Darrisaw / Offensive Tackle / Virginia Tech

Well, there is no doubt that Kyler Murray is Arizona’s franchise quarterback, so it would be in their best interest to get some help in protecting him. Christian Darrisaw was a rock for Virginia Tech last year and is most definitely a first or second round pick. The Cardinals can use Darrisaw as their ancor of a tackle and have someone around for a long time to protect their QB.

17. Las Vegas Raiders – Gregory Rousseau / Edge / Miami (Florida)

Defense is going to be a focus point in this year’s draft for the Raiders and Gregory Rousseau is just what they need for their team. Pairing Rousseau and Maxx Crosby together could be a deadly couple for years to come. They may also go the route of a cornerback, say if Caleb Farley or Patrick Surtain II are still on the board at pick 17.

18. Miami Dolphins – Jalen Mayfield / Offensive Tackle / Michigan

Yet another offensive lineman off the board, finding help to protect Tua Tagovailoa is something that could benefit Miami in this year’s draft. Already bringing in a talented wide receiver with the third pick in the draft, why not take some help up front at pick 18. Now something I could see happening is that the Dolphins go with Penei Sewell with the third and maybe look for Jaylen Waddle or Rashod Bateman with this pick.

19. Washington Football Team – Jaylen Waddle / Wide Receiver / Alabama

Wide receiver or quarterback are the two main options I see the WTF (Washington Football Team) going with using their first pick. Whoever plays quarterback next year for the WTF is going to need another target other than Terry McLaurin to throw to. That’s why I would rather go with Jaylen Waddle, Rashod Bateman, or even Kadarius Toney. They may go the quarterback route if one of the top QB’s are still on the board. Maybe they take a sleeper pick and go with Kyle Trask as well to fill their quarterback needs.

20. Chicago Bears – Rashod Bateman / Wide Receiver / Minnesota

With roomers of Allen Robinson II leaving the team, they will be looking for someone to fill the role of WR1. The way Rashod Bateman plays is very similar to the way Robinson plays. This will help them a lot even if Robinson stays to have two major passing threats. The Bears may also go with a quarterback in this draft if one of the top ones fall to their pick.

21. Indianapolis Colts – Samuel Cosmi / Offensive Tackle / Texas

Already having one of the top offensive lines in the NFL, bringing in tackle Samuel Cosmi to replace long time tackle Anthony Castonzo would be perfect. Having both Cosmi beside the best offensive lineman in the league in Quinten Nelson should give no problems to new quarterback Carson Wentz.

22. Tennessee Titans – Azeez Ojulari / Edge / Georgia

After having an awful draft last year, the Tennessee Titans are going to look to move on from that. Edge rusher Azeez Ojulari could bring some help to the Titans defense. Their offense has most of the tools already to go to a championship and getting some help on the D can maybe put them in that position.

23. New York Jets – Najee Harris / Running Back / Alabama

Perhaps the best running back in this year’s draft class, Najee Harris is a replica of 2020 2,000 yard rusher Derrick Henry. The Jets are in a rebuild mode and bringing in Najee Harris to work with Mecki Becton and Penei Sewell who I feel that they could take with the 2nd pick would bring a very strong run game for New York.

24. Pittsburgh Steelers – Alex Leatherwood / Offensive Tackle / Alabama

Pittsburgh is slowly coming to the position where they need to win a Super Bowl or start a rebuild. Big Ben Roethlisburger is coming to the point of retirement as well as their offensive line. Offensive Lineman, running back, or potentially a Quarterback is what I see them take with their first pick. The only two quarterbacks I would take if they were to fall to 24 would be Trey Lance or Justin Fields.

25.  Jacksonville Jaguars – Rondale Moore / Wide Receiver / Purdue

In a wide receiver class that is stacked, Rodale Moore could have been toward the top of the list but did decide to opt out of his 2020 season. He’s not the biggest or tallest guy in the world but his speed and athleticism could allow him to be a top wideout in the league and could make out to be a big target for most likely new QB Trevor Lawrence.

26. Cleveland Browns –  Christian Baremore / Defensive Tackle / Alabama

With already having a pretty dominant defensive line bringing in Christian Baremore and allowing him to learn off of Sheldon RIchardson could bring a scary sight to the AFC North. Having Richardson, Baremore and Myles Garrett all on the same defense could create some problems, potentially pushing Cleveland to a Super Bowl.

27. Baltimore Ravens – Creed Humphrey / Center / Oklahoma

Baltimore may go a couple different directions with their first pick in the draft. Most likely they will be going and getting help for their MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson. Creed Humphrey may be the guy to play the center position for the team for a while if they bring him in. They may also go and get one of the great wide receivers in this year’s draft class.

28.  New Orleans Saints – Terrace Marshall Jr. / Wide Receiver / LSU

Overlooked by his teammate Ja’Marr Chase, Terrace Marshall Jr. still may easily go in the first round as well. Marshall draws comparisons to the league’s and Saints top wideout Michael Thomas. The Saints are also rumored to be in the mix for Russell Wilson as well. Having Wilson with both Thomas and Marshall could give for some insane numbers.

29. Green Bay – Jaycee Horn / Cornerback / South Carolina

Green Bay is having an all or nothing year with Aaron Rodgers, they are much in the same situation as the Steelers as it is a Super Bowl or a bust. They already have one of the top offenses in the league so I could see them go and get some help on the defensive side of things, going with an edge rusher or someone to help Jaire Alexander at cornerback.

30. Buffalo Bills – Pat Freiermuth / Tight End / Penn State

The Buffalo Bills have most definitely found their star quarterback in Josh Allen as he proved to be a MVP caliber QB. What I would like them to go with is get one of the three top tight ends in this year’s draft. We have seen what a connection like Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce can be like. So why not get a great tight end in Freiermuth to be another target for Allen.

31. Kansas City Chiefs – Liam Eichenberg / Offensive Tackle  / Notre Dame

A team that can be good for years to come, the Kansas City Chiefs over the last few years proved just how dominant they are. But from what we saw in this year’s Super Bowl, Patrick Mahomes without an offensive line is not a good sight to see. In a year stacked with them, why not take one of the better ones with their first pick in the draft.

32. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Jayson Oweh / Edge / Penn State

Winning this year’s Super Bowl was great for Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but now it is time to start looking for the future. Taking Jayson Oweh with their first pick could bring that defense that was extremely good this year to a whole new level.
