Redbank Returns to D9 Championship after Revenge on Coudersport

After having one of the craziest years of football, the Redbank Valley Varsity football team has managed to go 5-0 and heads back to the D9 Championship. What made last week’s 28-12 against Coudersport impressive, wasn’t the fact that the RV dogs beat the two-time defending champs, but what it took the week beforehand to get the win.

Redbank’s football team received some unpleasant news on Friday, October 16, around midway through the day.   The team  received a call that everybody on the roster was to report for a meeting with Dr. Mastillo, district superintendent, where we learned our game against Curwensville would be cancelled.  But, that would not be the worst of it.  Toward the end of the day, Dr. Mastillo and Mrs. Rupp, high school principal, called yet another meeting, and this one  brought fear that our season may be over.   The result was all the offensive and defensive lineman would be forced into quarantine, leaving 18 players out of practice that week.  Devastating!   But, thanks to the help of Dr. Mastillo, Mrs. Rupp, and Mr. Hartle, the athletic director,  the game against Coudersport would be a go.

The players on the team came together and decided that they did not want this to be the end.    These events would not be the end of this year’s journey. So after many guys working out on their own, film watching, and Zoom meetings,  we came together as a team again that Saturday–and we came ready to play.

Cam Wagner gave a great performance in the air, throwing three touchdowns to Trenten Rupp, Marquise Gardlock, and Dalton Bish.   Joe Mansfield picked up a fumble and took it to the house for another touchdown. This was the first time that Redbank has beaten Coudersport since the regular season of the 2018.

This week the Bulldogs will go against another undefeated team, Smethport Hubbers. They will play at Brockway High School with the kickoff of 1:00 PM. Make sure to tune in and watch some of this smash-mouth football.
