Jr. High Spelling Bee

Megan Crissman, Staff Writer

The 7th and 8th grade spelling bee was held on February 12th in the auditorium during Period 2. This was only the second year for the spelling bee. When selecting the students to be in the spelling bee, Mrs. DiGiammarino gives her students bonus points to participate, but most students volunteer.

Have you ever wondered where the words come from? They get them from The Scripps National Spelling Bee. The words are divided by grade levels, and students study 300 words from grade 6 to 8. Mrs. Heasley has to study to pronounce the words that they use. Words like, ipso facto, ad nauseam, noctambulist, and quotidian! The winner of the spelling bee gets a monetary prize of $50.

The results of today’s spelling bee are as follows:

1st place: Peyton Kirkpatrick

2nd place: Rebecca Kunselman

3rd place: Carly Over

4th place: Brooklyn Hepler

5th place: Adam Cordwell
