Gerhard de Beer grew up in South Africa with his parents Rene´and Johan de Beer. Beer signed with the Packers on December 31, 2018. He previously was on the Buffalo Bills, where he came as an undrafted free agent out of Arizona. At Arizona, he was apart of the third-ranked rushing offense in the nation in 2017. It is going to be great to see how the rest of his career goes.

Q: You’ve had a pretty successful career, what has lead to your success?
A: Work ethic and trust in the fact that I was made for this. Believing in myself and having the confidence to pursue my dream. I have so many people to thank who have helped me along my journey. Nothing great is ever achieved alone.

Q: You get the opportunity to play with one of the greatest Quarterbacks of all time, Aaron Rodgers.   What is that like?
A: It’s a privilege. He can teach me a lot about being a pro, so all I try to do is learn from him. It’s hard because we play different positions, but in the same respect, it’s really cool to be around one of the greats. You’re still in awe when you first meet the guy regardless.

Q: At Arizona, you played great.  Anything you want to say that got you to a D-1 school.
A: Right place right time. I needed a school that would let me learn football whilst on a track scholarship and competing for track. Coach Rod valued walk-ons because he was one himself.

Q: You have had to play in some harsh environments while in the NFL (Buffalo and Green Bay).   Do you prefer the cold or warmth?
A: I don’t mind the weather anywhere. I like cold. It’s easier to cool down, but I’m happy living out my dream anywhere and thankful that I get to do it next year again.

Q: If you could play alongside any player ever, who would it be?
A: Tough question. I never had players I admired as a kid because I grew up in South Africa. So I never had a team I supported either. So I don’t really have an answer.

Q: Where do you see yourself in the next few years, career-wise and life?
A: The NFL is a very unpredictable business, so I can’t say where, but I would like to be starting as soon as possible just like every other player. And I’m looking to get married sometime in the next five years or so.
