Recently, students in Mrs. Orange’s Child Development classes had the privilege of having Ms. Pamela Shirey, Certified Nurse Midwife at Magee-Women’s Hospital, speak to the classes. Ms. Shirey is a former graduate of Redbank Valley High School. She spoke to students about pregnancy, labor, delivery and the neonatal period following birth. Topics included care for mom, family bonding, midwifery, and postpartum depression. Students thoroughly enjoyed having time for an open forum where they were able to ask questions. Ms. Shirey commented that she enjoyed working with the students and was pleased that she could give back to Redbank Valley her alma mater, and teach students the joy of becoming parents.
